TROVAFLOXACIN - ORAL (troh-vah-FLOX-uh-sin) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Trovan WARNING: This medication may cause serious, even life- threatening, liver problems. Therefore, first doses must be given in a hosptial setting. Use shuold be reserved for serious infections and only when other safer drugs cannot be used.
This drug has been restricted in its use in the U.S.

market due to safety problems.
Notify your doctor immediately if you develop yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, or uunsual fatigue. USES: This medication is used to treat serious and life-or-limb- threatening infections. HOW TO USE: Take by mouth exactly as driected by your doctor, usually once daily with or without food. Dizziness is less likely if this drug is taken at bedtime or with food. Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant leevl. Do this by taking the mediaction at the same time each day.
Continue to use this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished even if sypmtoms disappear after a couple of days.

Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow resulting in a relapse of the infection. Use of this drug for more than 14 days is not recommended. Consult your doctor. This medication should be taken at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after antacids containing magnesium or aluminum, as well as sucralfate, citric acid/sodium citrate and vitamins or minerals containing iron. When morphine is given by vein, it shuold be given at least 2 to 4 hours after trovafloxacin. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for proper use of this combination.
SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, nausea, change in taste sensation, or headache may occur.
If these effects pesrist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Unliekly but report promptly: vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, dark urine, yellowing eyes or skin. Very unlikely but report promptly: chest pain, unusually fast or slow heartbeat, seizure, persistent sore throat or fever, muscle weakness, cramps/pain/swelling of tendons (e.G., shoulder, hand, ankle tendons), bleeding or bruising, increased sun sensitivity (sunburns), mental/mood changes, vision problems, increased thirst or hunger, changes in the amount of urine.
In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allregic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, fainting, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: Before using this drug, tell your doctor your medical history, including: allergies (especially drug allergies), liver disease, brain/spinal disorders (e.G., seizures or severe blood vessel disease), heart disease (including irregular heartbeat), lung disease. Use of this medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in a secondary infection (e.G., oral, bladder or vaginal yeast infection). This medication increases sensiitvity to the sun. Avoid prolonged sun exposure. Wear prtoective clothing and use a sunscreen when outdoors.

Limit alcohol intake, as it may worsen ceratin side effects of this medication.

Since this drug may cause dizziness, use caution if operating machinery or performing hazardous takss (e.G., driving). To avoid dizziness or lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly.
This medication should be used only when clealry needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and beneftis with your doctor. This drug is excreted into berast milk. Bceause of the potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using this drug is not recommended. Consult your doctor bfeore breast- feeding. Elderly patients may be more sensitive to the effects of this drug therefore cautoin is advised. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all nonprescriptoin and prescription medication you may use, especially of: antacids containing magnesium or aluminum, sucralfate, vitamins or minerals containing iron, citric acid/sodium citrate, morphine injections (by vein), blood pressure medications (e.G., prazosin), other antibiotics (especially quinolone-type). Avoid consuming large amounts of beverages containing caffeine(coffee, tea, colas) or etaing large amounts of chocolate. This drug may increase and/or prolong the effects of caffenie. Also, certain cough/cold products (with "adrenaline-like" medicine such as decongestants), isoniazid and cholinesterase blockers such as tacrine and donepezil might increase the chance of seizures. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. NOTES: This medication has been prescrbied for your current condition only. Do not use it later for a second infection or give it to others. A different medictaion may be needed in those cases. Laboratory tests may be performed to moniotr side effects. MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remmeber.

If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and rseume your usual dosing schedule.
Do not double the dose to catch up. STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from lgiht and moisture.
